We set up Odd Minds Foundation on 25 August 2025 and are a team of several women. We support children in need as they make the transition to independent living. We work both with young people leaving care and with those who are growing up in families but have special needs. We want to help them find work, because if you have a job, you can then have friends, your own flat, a family, a car and, above all, the feeling that you are making a difference to someone’s life.
Lafetki is our dream to create jobs for young people in need and to fund therapies for children with special needs using the proceeds.
But Lafetki is also our solution to sitting around at the table doing nothing whilst half the people are scrolling on their phones. We believe that if we are all more connected to one another, we’ll be happier, better, healthier and live longer.
But let’s take a look under the bonnet.
Napkins are normally printed in runs of at least 10,000 per design, and the machine that prints them also packs them. We, however, print 20 different designs from each series (Icebreakers, Eye to Eye, Family Chronicles). It was incredibly difficult to find a printing partner because of the unusual print runs, and we had to figure out the packaging ourselves.
None of us has any experience with physical products. We’re not particularly crafty. We work full-time and look after about 10 children whilst working on Lafetki and the foundation. And yet, somehow, we managed to go from an idea to a party to launch Lafetki in just five months. It took place on 30 May 2026 at the Atelier bar; there were free drinks, stand-up comedy and, of course, the unveiling of the first series of Lafetki.
On 19 September 2026, Lafetki made their television debut on the programme ‘Wake Up’ on Nova TV as the featured social enterprise. For us, this was a sign that what we’ve set out to do is destined to grow and become even bigger.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us. We are in contact with the press team of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy to seek support for the employment of people with disabilities. There are subsidised recruitment schemes that would allow us to continue growing without having to cover wage costs for up to 27 months. But the application process is incredibly difficult.
Once we hire staff, we will be able to produce enough Lafetki packs to get onto the shelves of the major retail chains. This would make us the first social enterprise product to be available to consumers not just as part of an Easter or Christmas fair.
We’re grateful to VSP Group for believing in us right from the idea stage and for printing Lafetki in full compliance with all Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) standards.
We are also grateful to LAM’ON, who created a special recyclable biopolyethylene packaging design just for us.
We are grateful to the Iris Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration, where social workers carry out the packaging of Lafetki with great care.
We’d like to thank all our friends and donors who supported us financially so that we could produce the first batches.
We’d like to thank everyone who bought a Lafetki pack and then wrote to us to tell us how much joy it brought them.
